Abt team puzzled by di Grassi's underweight car in FE Mexico ePrix

The Abt Audi Sport Formula E team has no explanation for Lucas di Grassi's race-winning car being underweight in Mexico last weekend, resulting in the Brazilian being excluded

Di Grassi lost the Mexico City race victory and the championship lead when he was disqualified following post-race scrutineering, with his car coming in 1.8kg under the minimum weight limit.

The Abt team chose not to appeal the decision, citing concerns over any effects for the upcoming Long Beach race on April 2 as one of the main reasons.

"The car was weighed several times here in Mexico and exceeded the minimum weight every time," said team boss Hans-Jurgen Abt.

"Because our team had not made any changes, we have no explanation for the measurement after the race.

"We will try to find out the reason for not making the minimum weight - we can only apologise to Lucas.

"He drove a great race and won convincingly by more than five seconds, but was robbed of his just reward.

"We will do everything possible to make amends for this mistake and get Lucas back into the thick of the title fight."

Di Grassi now sits 22 points behind Renault e.dams driver Sebastien Buemi at the head of the drivers' standings.
