Vettel wants to focus on title chase

Sebastian Vettel wants to focus on winning the F3 Euroseries title and has vowed not to let his Formula One testing duties for BMW to get in the way of his championship hopes

Vettel is currently in second place, 12 points behind ASM teammate Paul di Resta. But the German has also made his Formula One debut last month in Turkey, where he was drafted as the third driver and Friday tester for BMW-Sauber.

Vettel made an immediate impact on the F1 paddock, also topping the practice times for the Italian Grand Prix.

But the Red Bull-backed driver now says he will concentrate on the F3 Euroseries championship battle, before turning his attention to his future plans.

"I want to win the F3 Euroseries title," Vettel explained, "and only after that I will focus on the future. So far, nothing is planned."

Vettel has three rounds to go in the F3 Euroseries season, and while none of these clash with the remaining F1 rounds, the fact that the last three Grands Prix are flyaways would make it difficult for the German to take part in both series, globetrotting from Barcelona to Shanghai, from Suzuka to Le Mans, and from Interlagos to Hockenheim - all in the span of six weeks.

BMW have yet to decide whether to draft Vettel again for any of the remaining Grands Prix, and a BMW spokesman told autosport.com today: "No decision has been made yet, but I expect we will make a decision soon. We are taking it race by race."

The spokesman added, however, that BMW would "absolutely" factor Vettel's championship situation into their decision.

Vettel himself also revealed that he would like to return to Macau after the season is over. The German finished third in last year's F3 Macau Grand Prix. "I hope to go there, yeah," he added.
