Van der Garde wins race 2

Giedo van der Garde's terrible start to the Formula Three Euroseries season finally ended when he won round ten at Norisring on Sunday

The Dutchman, who had only scored ten points all season, grabbed the lead at the first corner from pole sitter Joao Urbano (Prema) and scorched to a 12.5 seconds victory over ASM teammate Kamui Kobayashi.

It would have been an ASM 1-2-3, but Saturday race winner Paul di Resta was forced out with just six laps remaining when he suffered a driveshaft failure and was forced to retire to the pits. He was running second at the time, despite dropping outside the top 10 early on after avoiding Kohei Hirate's first lap crash at the Esses.

Brands winner Peter Elkmann was on the podium once again in third, while USA's Charlie Kimball also put an end to his dismal run, scoring his first Euroseries points for Signature.

Kazuki Nakajima was the only Manor Motorsport car to finish in fifth, as Esteban Guerrieri snapped a driveshaft at the start, and Kohei Hirate slammed into the wall on the opening lap.

Jonathan Summerton, who finished third for Mucke yesterday, lost any chance of a good finish when he was given a drive-though penalty for a jump start. He was running third again at the time. Teammate Sebastien Buemi was also penalized for the same thing, but not before he had punted off fellow Red Bull Junior Sebastian Vettel early on.

Poleman Urbano spun out of third position at the first corner on lap 19.
