Van der Garde takes Le Mans pole
Holland's Giedo van der Garde will start round 17 of the Formula Three Euroseries from pole position in his ASM-run Dallara-Mercedes
Van der Garde was in sparkling form, only momentarily losing pole to teammate Sebastian Vettel mid-way through the session. In the end, he set his fastest lap on his final tour, and the 1:30.144 was a tenth quicker than Sebastien Buemi (Mucke Motorsport), who came on strong in the closing seconds of the session.
Kamui Kobayashi (ASM) qualified third, but he will take a five-place grid penalty for refusing to get out of his car when instructed by marshals in the previous Barcelona race. A similar penalty will drop Vettel from sixth to 11th.
Series leader Paul di Resta was uncharacteristically quiet, qualifying down in seventh but jumping up to fifth due to the penalties that will be served by his teammates.
Romain Grosjean will start third for the French Signature team, ahead of Jonathan Summerton (Mucke). Charlie Kimball (Signature) will start behind di Resta in sixth.
