Sachs'ring qual 1: Gary back on top

England's Gary Paffett will start Saturday's third round of the German Formula 3 Championship at Sachsenring from pole position - the position he would have started Sunday's race too had he not been thrown out for using illegal fuel

Paffett lapped his Team Rosberg-run Dallara-Opel in 1m16.339s, a tenth ahead of Japanese racer Kousuke Matsuura (Prema Powerteam). Austria's Bernhard Auinger (BSR) and Brazil's Joao Paulo de Oliveira (Team Kolles) will line up on the second row, ahead of Vitantonio Liuzzi (BSR) and Marc Benz (Swiss Racing Team)

Championship leader Frank Diefenbacher (BSR) will start ninth, two spots behind another frontrunner, the Mercedes-powered Markus Winkelhock (Mucke Motorsport).

Saturday's third round of the championship starts at 16.30 local time (15.30 BST).
