Race 2: Premat's revenge

Alexandre Premat has had to endure a rough patch in his quest to win the Formula 3 Euroseries title in recent weeks, but the Frenchman put all his recent misfortunes behind him to clinch victory in race two of this weekend's meeting at the Norisring?

Premat capitalised on a rare mistake by championship leader Jamie Green early in the race, and while the Brit closed the gap in the late stage of the 35-lap race, Premat held on to clinch a win he hopes will re-energise his title challenge.

Green ran run through the final turn to open the door to Premat, and while he never let his ASM team-mate get more than a couple of car lengths ahead he had to settle for second, which consolidated his championship lead.

Race one winner Hamilton made a cracking start from fifth and almost took third from Robert Kubica into the first turn. Instead he got stuck behind the Pole for the first half of the race, and although he eventually muscled his way through, his chance of a second win had gone. Nevertheless, it has been a great weekend for the rookie, who has now established himself as a genuine frontrunner in the series.

Nico Rosberg looked like ending his poor run of results after getting the better of Kubica too, but his front suspension was damaged during his physical battle with the Mucke car and a broken front suspension on the penultimate lap compounded the frustrating run of results he's been on since taking both wins at the opening round at Hockenheim.

Still, he won't have to wait long to make amends, with the series rolling onto Magny-Cours next week for its one and only Grand Prix support slot of the season.
