Qualifying 1: Van der Merwe takes pole
British Formula 3 Championship leader Alan van der Merwe set pole position for the third round of the series at Snetterton today (Saturday)
The South African lapped his Carlin Motorsport Dallara-Mugen in 1m01.845s, the only driver to dip below the 62-sec bracket in the session, which was held in bitterly cold weather conditions. Nelson Angelo Piquet (Piquet Sports) was next up, just pipping the Carlin entries of Richard Antinucci and Ronnie Bremer.
Adam Carroll could be the star of the weekend, however, having dragged the erstwhile recalcitrant Lola-Dome chassis up to a stunning fifth on the grid for race one. Danny Watts was sixth quickest for Hitech Racing, which welcomes back Eric Salignon after illness this weekend (he was only 19th, however), ahead of Donington Park pacesetter Jamie Green (Carlin).
