Qual: Salignon again
Eric Salignon is the man to beat at Zandvoort. The French ASM driver snatched his second pole of the weekend in the dying minutes of the Formula 3 Euro Series session to deny Nicolas Lapierre pole and his Signature Plus team its first qualifying one-two of the season
Salignon embarked on what would be the pole lap with just 30 seconds of the session remaining. His sector one time was stunning, but he lost ground on Lapierre through the middle part of the lap. However, he was faultless in the final corners to record a time over two tenths quicker than his fellow Frenchman.
Local hero Giedo van der Garde pulled out the stops in front of his home fans to grab third on the grid, while Lewis Hamilton continued his strong weekend by taking fourth for Manor Motorsport. The third row is an all ASM affair, with Alexandre Premat fifth, just one hundredth faster than Jamie Green in sixth.
It wasn't the result the championship leader was hoping for, but with nearest rival Nico Rosberg back in eighth, it wasn't a disaster. Fellow Briton Tom Kimber-Smith made a big improvement from his qualifying two showing, where he was 22nd, to set the 17th best time.
