Q & A with Bruno Senna

Bruno Senna will miss the main race of the Macau Grand Prix after a crash in the qualification race destroyed his car and injured his thumb

On his return to the track from hospital, the Brazilian spoke to autosport.com about his one-off return to Formula Three this weekend.

Q: How are you feeling?

Bruno Senna: "Very sore."

Q: Going back to the start of the race, you had a fantastic first lap and were up to seventh. How was it going early on?

Senna: "It was a good start. The car was feeling okay and there were a few balance issues that I was just getting around. It was going alright. And on the lap of my crash I made a mistake at the last corner, so Nico (Hulkenberg) got in my slipstream and he pulled side-by-side, but he did not get ahead of me.

"When we got to Mandarin he just turned into me. He was staying in the middle of the circuit and trying to squeeze me, but I just stayed there. He moved to the left, I moved to the left as well, but then he just turned right. I turned right too but I hit the wall on the inside because there is only so much you can turn.

"I then took off on his wheel and landed straight into the other wall. It was a big accident. I was doing 158mph when I took off. There wasn't much braking in the air! So I am feeling quite sore now."

Q: You went to hospital to check on your hand. What did they say?

Senna: "I have a crack in my thumb, so there is no race for me tomorrow. My car is also too damaged anyway. It's a big consequence for his actions. But that is how it is unfortunately."

Q: How would you sum up the weekend?

Senna: "It is disappointing, especially for the team. It would have been great for me to win this race or have a great result in Macau, but I was doing this for the team. I felt that I had more experience now and I felt I could do better, but unfortunately I don't think everything went our way.

"Still, in the race I was going to finish in a good position. With my experience I would be able to set the car up better for tomorrow and go for a better result, but Macau is always full of surprises."

Q: So no regrets about coming back?

Senna: "No, no regrets. Obviously it is a shame not to make it to the end of the race, but I hope my thumb injury does not affect my fitness training."
