Preview: Kerr tops Brands test

Robbie Kerr continued his quest to peg back the British Formula 3 Championship lead of James Courtney by lapping quickest in today's test on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit ahead of this weekend's double-header eighth round

Kerr, who lies fourth in the standings, took his Alan Docking Racing Dallara-Mugen around the 1.2-mile track a comfortable 0.311s clear of his closest class opposition, Bruce Jouanny's Promatecme Dallara-Mugen.

In between them was Scholarship Class sensation Clivio Piccione - the Monegasque teenager did a remarkable job to end up second overall, almost half a second clear of his closest rival, T-Sport team-mate Karun Chandhok.

Piccione gets a great opportunity to take an overall race win, as the two classes are split for the first of the two races (the Scholarship boys kick off Sunday's programme at 1000 BST).

Fourth overall was Courtney. The Carlin Motorsport Dallara-Mugen ace is bidding to put an end to his Brands Hatch jinx this weekend - he has taken pole position four times there in F3, but has never won. The Australian just edged out team-mates Alan van der Merwe and Michael Keohane.

Changes to the regular entry include Stefan Hodgetts (replacing Tom Sisley at Motaworld Racing) and Adam Jones (stepping in for David Clark at Team Park).
