Norisring qual 2: Paffett on front row

Kousuke Matsuura will start race two of the German F3 round at Norisring this weekend from pole position. The Japanese driver set the pace during pre-qualifying testing and continued his strong form to deny championship leader Gary Paffett the top starting slot by just 0.024s

Paffett's main championship rival, Frank Diefenbacher, will line up next to the Brit in third spot, after recording a best time just fractions slower than the Team Rosberg star. Opel engined cars dominated qualifying at the short, fast track, taking all of the first five positions.

Sven Heidfeld was the quickest of the Mercedes runners in sixth, narrowly ahead of Jeffery van Hooydonk - the fastest Mugen-Honda runner. Markus Winkelhock, who has been Mercedes pace setter for the first part of the season, was less than a tenth slower than his team-mate in eighth.

Last time out, Timo Glock won, in a race shortened following a multi-car crash. Glock will have his work cut out to repeat that performance from 13th, while Sakon Yamamoto, who was thankfully unhurt in that Sachsenring shunt, lines up 11th.
