Points boost for German leader Paffett

German Formula 3 Championship leader Gary Paffett has received a huge boost to his title hopes after the German governing body, the DMSB, decided to annul all points from round 10 of the series at EuroSpeedway Lausitz on Sunday

Team Rosberg driver Paffett was given a stop/go penalty in that race for overtaking two rivals under the safety car, which was being used from the start due to heavy rain, after he stalled briefly on the dummy grid. He had regained his position in time for the start proper, but the race director wrongly judged this illegal, which Paffett claimed lost him the chance of at least a podium finish. Paffett finished the race in 11th.

Paffett's team boss Arno Zensen protested the stop/go decision, which was initially thrown out by race stewards, but his appeal to the DMSB has proved successful. In its ruling, the DMSB pointed out that an injustice had been caused to Paffett, and that it had no other choice but to scratch all points from that race.

The German Formula 3 Association then accepted the decision after reviewing the legal situation regarding the other 29 starters, and six points scorers, in the race. All points from the event have been annulled, restoring Paffett's 25-point lead over series rival Frank Diefenbacher, who had won Sunday's race - therefore costing him 10 points.

Paffett's manager Martin Hines commented: "I applaud this decision as justice has been done."
