New British calendar released

The 13-round calendar for the 2002 British Formula 3 Championship has been released, with series organisers British Motorsport Promoters trying to avoid clashes with the UK's other headline series, the British Touring Car Championship

Coupled with the TOCA tour BTCC package, there will be three combined 'super weekends' next year. Formula 3, along with the British GT Championship, will stage races at the same venue as the BTCC at the beginning, middle and end of the 13-weekend season.

"We have tried very hard to ensure that we have a workable calendar that reflects everybody's interests," said BMP chairman Robert Fearnall. "Outside of the 'super weekends' we have only one clash with the TOCA tour: Castle Combe on June 22/23. That was unavoidable because we wanted to free key GT personnel and suppliers to race at the Le Mans 24 Hours."

British F3's foray north of the border will be earlier next year, with the Knockhill rounds of the championship being held in April. Rain washed out the second of the two races at the Fife circuit last month, but there's no guarantee that inclement weather won't affect the meeting next spring too.
