Mustonen nets maiden British F3 pole

Atte Mustonen claimed his first British Formula 3 Championship pole position at Snetterton this morning (Saturday)

The Double R Racing driver is the first rookie to top a qualifying session this season.

The teenaged Finn, who was also quick in yesterday's test session, edged out fellow rookie Niall Breen (Carlin Motorsport) on a warm, sunny day at the Norfolk track.

The hot weather made lap times relatively slow, and there were few instances of overdriving. Indeed, there was not a single red flag - unusual in British F3.

Mustonen's experienced team-mate Jonathan Kennard was third, which is an improvement on his Bucharest form.

But less happy will be championship leader Marko Asmer (Hitech Racing), who has not been on his usual pace this weekend and was sixth in this session.

At least his title rivals Stephen Jelley and Maro Engel are behind him on the grid - but only just. Engel (Carlin) and Jelley (Double R) are seventh and eighth.

Sergio Perez took the National Class pole for T-Sport.
