Mortara welcomes Signature VW move
Formula Three Euro Series rookie of the year Edoardo Mortara is excited about the challenge presented by his Signature team's switch to Volkswagen engines next year
Despite being in only his second season of racing, Mortara won twice in his debut campaign in F3 last year. And he had been a threat for a good result in Macau before crashing out on the opening lap of the qualification race.
Having already tested the Volkswagen engine for the first time, the Italian is now bullish about the German manufacturer's chances of impressing in their first full season since returning to F3.
"I'm very grateful to Volkswagen and Signature for giving me this amazing opportunity," said Mortara. "The Formula Three Euro Series will be as competitive as ever next year, but the reputation of Volkswagen speaks for itself.
"Having worked with the Signature team throughout 2007, I know that together with Volkswagen we will form an extremely strong package.
"Now that I have won the rookie title, the next natural target is the overall championship. While this is sure to be an extremely tough task, it is nonetheless my firm aim - as well as that of Signature."
