Le Mans race 2: Klien scores first win
Austria's Christian Klien won his first ever Formula 3 race in the Euroseries at Le Mans in France today (Monday)
The Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes driver passed poleman Olivier Pla (ASM Dallara-Mercedes) at the start and never looked back, winning the race by just over a second from Fabio Carbone (Signature Dallara-Renault), who was left to rue a costly error when he slid wide at the first corner. Bruno Spengler (ASM Dallara-Mercedes) finished third, as Pla was one of the many frontrunners to hit trouble.
"I got a good start and Fabio made a mistake so I could overtake him too," said Klien. "It was not easy to lead the race, but I did my best and I won."
Fellow Austrian Bernhard Auinger (TME Dallara-Toyota) scored his best result of the season so in fourth place, ahead of Nicolas Lapierre (Signature Dallara-Renault). Series leader Ryan Briscoe (Prema Dallara-Opel) was rammed off the track on the opening lap by one of the ASM cars, but main rivals Pla and Timo Glock (KMS Dallara-Opel) failed to score any points either, so he still holds a 30-point lead.
