Kiesa leads British F3 testing in Spain

Denmark's Nicolas Kiesa threw down the gauntlet to his British Formula 3 Championship rivals by topping the first day of testing at Jarama in Spain on Monday for the renamed Prost Junior Team

Three leading teams were present in Spain as the series' winter test ban was lifted, with the RC Motorsport-run Prost squad, Jaguar Racing F3 and reigning champions Manor Motorsport on track. Ex-British Formula Ford champion Kiesa, driving a Spiess Opel-powered Dallara, lapped the former Spanish GP venue in 1m29.31s, 0.06s ahead of Jaguar's German charge Andre Lotterer (Dallara-Mugen), who said he set his best lap on old tyres.

Derek Hayes was the quickest Manor Motorsport driver, lapping in 1m29.43s on new tyres to pip Jaguar's James Courtney and Manor colleagues Mark Taylor and Jeffrey Jones (all Dallara-Mugens). Jones lost track time due to an off, as did Kiesa's team mate Ryan Dalziel, who wound up the slowest of the seven cars present. Testing continues at Jarama until Thursday.

Andy Priaulx and Paul Edwards tested their Alan Docking Racing-run Dallara-Mugen machinery for the first time on Silverstone's tiny Stowe circuit on Monday, before the team heads north to test at Oulton Park today (Tuesday) and tomorrow. Priaulx said: "The car is great and feels really powerful. Initial indications are really promising and we've got a really intensive programme of testing now."
