Kerr reinstated as Silverstone winner
Robbie Kerr has been handed back the win he took at Silverstone on June 2 in the British Formula 3 Championship to significantly slash the gap in the points table to James Courtney
Kerr was excluded from the race for his part in a clash with Courtney which left the Australian sidelined. When his Alan Docking Racing team appealed against the verdict to the stewards of the meeting, they downgraded the offence but refused to reinstate Kerr as the race winner.
It is understood that the Motor Sports Council tribunal reinstated Kerr because of the procedural irregularity in changing the charge at the first appeal. But Kerr and ADR felt that, even without this, they had a strong enough case and that the matter was just a racing incident.
The result means that Mark Taylor loses his inherited victory, and that Kerr is now just 18 points behind Courtney. Kerr also has now won six races to the four of Courtney. Three of his victories have come in the last four races (at Castle Combe and Brands Hatch), and he is now the driver on a roll in the championship.
