Juncadella on Spielberg poles

Daniel Juncadella claimed a brace of pole positions for the latest round of the F3 Euro Series at Spielberg in Austria

The Spaniard had gone quickest at various points during an entertaining qualifying session, only to be knocked back down by a succession of drivers, including his Prema team-mate Roberto Merhi, Mucke Motorsport's Felix Rosenqvist, and Signature's Marco Wittmann.

Juncadella's final flying lap was his best, a 1m25.364s time giving him pole for race three on Sunday, while his second-quickest lap of 1m25.508s ensured that he will also start Saturday's first race from the top spot - the first time he will have done so since last year's Euro Series opener at Paul Ricard.

His closest challenge came from Rosenqvist, and the Swede's best time was just 0.099s slower, giving him a second front-row start of the season for race three.

Championship leader Merhi will start race three from third place ahead of Nigel Melker (Mucke), Wittmann and Jimmy Eriksson, who impressively outqualified his more experienced Motopark team-mate Tom Dillmann.

Merhi's consistency during the session netted him a front-row start alongside his team-mate Juncadella for race one, with Wittmann, Rosenqvist and Melker next up.

There were incidents during the session for Prema new boy Gianmarco Raimondo and Signature's Daniel Abt, both of whom stopped on the circuit between the Power Horse and Niki Lauda Kurves.

Kuba Giermaziak was already destined to start near the back for race one, the Polish driver having been given a 10-place grid penalty prior to the session due to an engine change.
