Jaafar becomes first Malaysian to win in F3 Euro Series with victory at Brands Hatch

Jazeman Jaafar became the first Malaysian to win an F3 Euro Series race with a lights-to-flag victory at Brands Hatch on Saturday afternoon

The Carlin driver started from pole position on the reversed grid and almost lost the lead to the fast-starting Felix Rosenqvist at Paddock Hill bend on the first lap, but held his position on the run up to Druids and then forced the Mucke Motorsport man to take to the grass on the exit of the corner.

While that dropped Rosenqvist to fifth, Jaafar still came under intense pressure from Sven Muller, who remained within half a second for the remainder of the race.

Prema driver Muller occasionally shaped up to pass Jaafar in the hope of forcing a mistake, but the latter held firm to win by 0.3s. However, with Jaafar not registered for Euro Series points, it was the German who took the maximum score in the race for the first time in his F3 career.

Pascal Wehrlein was a lonely third for Mucke, four seconds ahead of Prema's Michael Lewis, with Rosenqvist fifth - as he had been at the end of the first lap.

Carlos Sainz Jr (Carlin) held off race one winner Raffaele Marciello (Prema) for sixth while Fahmi Ilyas completed the top eight for Double R. Tom Blomqvist and Will Buller rounded out the top 10 for ma-con and Carlin.

Championship leader Daniel Juncadella almost stalled on the grid and dropped from seventh to 17th and last. Despite overtaking five rivals in the opening five laps, the Prema driver could make no more progress and finished right behind Emil Bernstorff's ma-con car in 12th.

Juncadella retained his championship lead, although Sainz reduced his deficit to his Spanish countryman from 15 points to 11.
