Hohenthal takes first F3 win

Sebastian Hohenthal took his first British Formula Three Championship win in a dramatic finish to the second race at Brands Hatch this afternoon

The Fortec Motorsport driver survived a couple of late scares after getting ahead of Marko Asmer at the start and keeping the championship leader quiet for most of the race.

After looking mostly unthreatening, Asmer made a move for the lead in the closing stages which resulted in him going off the road at Stirlings.

This gave Hohenthal some breathing space, but only until he dropped a wheel off the road at Clearways at the end of the penultimate lap.

This error allowed Double R Racing driver Atte Mustonen a good run at the leader, and he slipped alongside Hohenthal at Druids on the final lap. But some hard defence from Hohenthal just kept him in front until the flag.

Asmer recovered to finish third, with Ultimate Motorsport man Michael Devaney registering the Mygale car's best F3 result with fourth.

Sam Bird led the race early on, but only as a result of a blatant jump start. He was soon called in for a drive-through penalty, handing control of the race to Hohenthal.

Franky Cheng made it a double in the National Class. Once again his rival Sergio Perez (T-Sport) had no answer for the Performance Racing driver.
