Hockenheim F3 Euro: Felix Rosenqvist wins, Daniel Juncadella champion

Felix Rosenqvist won the final race of the Formula 3 Euro Series at Hockenheim on Sunday, while fourth place for Daniel Juncadella secured him the championship

Hockenheim F3 Euro: Felix Rosenqvist wins, Daniel Juncadella champion

Mucke Motorsport driver Rosenqvist made a superb getaway from pole position to lead the Prema Powerteam Dallara-Mercedes of Juncadella into the first corner.

After the engine-related problems that put him out of both Saturday races, Juncadella erred on the side of caution and opted not to defend his position when title rival Pascal Wehrlein overtook him at the Spitzkehre on lap seven.

While Wehrlein closed up on his team-mate Rosenqvist, he was unable to pass the Swede and finished over a second behind at the flag, completing a second one-two for Mucke this weekend.

Juncadella also lost third place to Fortec's Alex Lynn before the end, but with the British F3 regular not registered for points, fourth was still more than enough to wrap up both the Euro Series and FIA European F3 titles. His success earns Juncadella a Ferrari Formula 1 test.

Lynn's Fortec team-mate Felix Serralles was fifth, ahead of Sven Muller, Tom Blomqvist and Raffaele Marciello.

Prema driver Marciello, who started the race as Juncadella's closest rival for the Euro Series title, slid to third in the points behind Wehrlein as a result. He did, however, finish second in the FIA standings. The FIA series top three all get Formula 2 tests.

Marciello was involved in a first-lap incident with Will Buller, tagging the back of the Carlin driver as the latter rejoined the track after running wide at Turn 1. Buller suffered rear suspension damage that put him out.

Carlin's race was a dreadful one. Seconds after Buller's incident, Carlos Sainz Jr was spun out of fifth place when Lucas Auer made an ambitious move to pass him into Turn 2. Felipe Nasr failed to start.

Auer's Van Amersfoort team-mate Dennis van der Laar was eliminated later on. Emil Bernstorff spun Lucas Wolf at the Spitzkehre and the unsighted van der Laar then whacked the URD driver while the latter was attempting to spin-turn his Dallara at the exit of the corner.
