Harry Tincknell switches from Carlin to Fortec for F3 Macau GP

British Formula 3 race winner Harry Tincknell is to return to Fortec Motorsport for next month's Macau Grand Prix

Harry Tincknell switches from Carlin to Fortec for F3 Macau GP

Tincknell, who won four reversed-grid races this season in a Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen, will join Fortec regulars and fellow Macau rookies Felix Serralles, Alex Lynn and Pipo Derani in the squad's quartet of Dallara-Mercedes.

The Devon driver raced with Fortec in F3 in 2011, and also took his fledgling steps in cars with the team in '08.

"My first forays into testing cars were with Fortec in Formula BMW," said Tincknell. "And then I did the 2010 post-season F3 tests and the 2011 season with them.

"I know the team very well and I've always stayed in close contact. I've learned a lot at Carlin this year, especially from my engineer Stefan de Groot, but it'll be good working with Andi Scott [Fortec chief engineer] again. There was no place for me at Carlin for Macau, so this seemed like a natural choice.

"Every year Macau is tough, but it's a new car this year so that minimises the disadvantage. It's very exciting to go with Fortec, especially as they seem very good on low-downforce tracks."

Tincknell, who is mentored by Audi sportscar star Allan McNish, added: "Allan wanted me to go for the experience of doing it. He said it made him a better driver."

It is understood that Tincknell, 20, is weighing up a move into the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for next season or a switch to LMP prototype racing.
