Green to race with Carlin
McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC young driver award winner Jamie Green will race for the leading Carlin squad in British Formula 3 next season, he has announced at AUTOSPORT international
2002 was Green's first year racing cars, during which he competed in the British Formula Renault championship, winning two races. He also took part in the end of season Korea F3 race, driving for Carlin.
"It's not a decision we took lightly, and we've been thinking about it for a few weeks," said Green. "We did some F3 testing with Fortec and Carlin. It's not just about what people can do but how they go about it, and with Carlin it just seemed to be very easy, very straightforward. They've got a very strong background and you need that wealth of experience. I think it's good all round."
Green believes that he should be able to challenge for race wins next season.
"If the equipment is up to the job, which I'm confident it will be, that I should be challenging for race wins," he said. "To win the British F3 championship in the first year doesn't happen very often. I'm just looking forward to it and I haven't set myself any major targets."
