Ilott, who finished third in this season's GP3 Series standings, is one of a raft of European drivers who have been added to the line-up for the test since the original entry list was released.

The 20-year old will drive for OIRC Team YTB in a Volkswagen-powered Dallara in the test, which takes place on December 20-21.

OIRC is the Okayama International circuit team that ran Yoshiaki Katayama in this year's championship.

Katayama, the son of the Okayama circuit boss, joined Carlin for the Macau Grand Prix, where Ilott was one of his team-mates.

Ilott, who raced in the F3 European Championship from 2015-17, qualified on the front row for Macau but faded in the race and finished seventh.

He is still pursuing an opening in Formula 2 for next season, and took part in the recent post-season test at Yas Marina with Charouz Racing System and Trident.

Ilott was unavailable for comment to Autosport as he was flying out to Japan ahead of the test.

He will share his car at Suzuka with schoolmate James Pull, who finished runner-up in the 2017 BRDC British F3 Championship before a race-winning rookie campaign in the European Lamborghini Super Trofeo this season.

As well as Pull, another British driver returning to single-seater action for the test is Ricky Collard.

The former British F3/F4 race winner, who has spent time in GT racing and the British Touring Car Championship as a BMW junior, will drive for ThreeBond Racing.

Collard will share his car with the already-confirmed Hugo de Sadeleer.

F3 European Championship race winner Sacha Fenestraz is also taking part, driving for the Motopark-affiliated B-Max Racing team.
