F3 round-up: Priaulx sets sights high at Docking…
Andy Priaulx believes he is the man to take Alan Docking Racing back to the winner's circle of the British Formula 3 Championship this season
Docking's Silverstone-based team hasn't won a round of Britain's top single-seater championship since Benetton test driver Mark Webber was victorious on the Brands Hatch GP circuit in 1997. But former Renault Spider champion Priaulx, who endured an up-and-down year with Promatecme last year before going on to drive for champion team Manor Motorsport at Macau and Korea, is adamant he can break that drought of wins.
"Drivers like Webber have proved in the past that the team can be right up there at the front," he told Autosport's sister publication Motoring News. "We're all very determined for this season. I've known Alan for four years and I've never seen him so fired up. My job is to shape the team around me so that they are giving me the car I need to win races."
Highly-rated Frenchman Bruce Jouanny has signed for the Anglo-French Promatecme team for this year's British F3 series. The Junior class champion in last year's Euro Formula Palmer Audi was recommended to race in the category by former Promatecme old boy Nicolas Minassian, who is now racing Champ Cars for Ganassi Racing. Promatecme has lost its works Renault engine deal for 2001 and will now use Mugen-Hondas.
One of Britain's forgotten single-seater stars, 1993 F3 Class B champion Jamie Spence, has signed to race for new outfit Duma Racing in this year's top class. The 27-year-old, who won the British Formula Ford title in 1992, hasn't raced a single-seater since 1999. He also briefly flirted with touring cars, racing an Andy Rouse-run Nissan in 1996, but has never had a full season in any racing car since '93. "You never give up believing in yourself and it's really nice certain people don't give up on you either," he said. "I don't believe you get slow overnight."
