F3 returns to Monaco for 2005
The Formula 3 Euroseries has announced that it will stage a race at next year's Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix after seven years away from the prestigious venue. Organisers of the series, The FFSA (Federation Francaise du Sport Automobile) and the DMSB (Deutscher Motor Sport Bund) have been in lengthy negotiations with Monaco organiser ACM (Automobile Club du Monaco) before making their announcement on Tuesday
The Formula 3 Monaco Grand Prix was staged for the first time in 1958, while Jordan's current F1 driver Nick Heidfeld was the last racer to win the event in 1997, a race that ranked alongside Macau and the Marlboro Masters as one of the biggest F3 events of the year.
"We're pleased that the Formula 3 Euroseries is going to be staged alongside our Monaco Grand Prix," Michel Boeri, president of the ACM, said. "Europe's strongest series for up-and-coming racers will enhance the Grand Prix supporting programme immensely. With the race on Saturday afternoon we'll be picking up on the tradition of the Formula 3 Monaco Grand Prix, which also gained a lot of respect worldwide."
Hermann Tomczyk, vide president of DMSB, added: "I'm pleased that we managed to get the Formula 3 Euroseries staged alongside the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco. This is thanks to a long-term agreement with the Monaco automobile club and underlines the value of the series. Here the drivers have the chance to prove themselves at one of the most challenging circuits."
