Ericsson quickest in final test

Marcus Ericsson topped the final pre-season British Formula Three test at Oulton Park yesterday, just 0.079 seconds ahead of Brendon Hartley

The pair of F3 newcomers have consistently topped the pre-season standings and both will be targeting the championship after outpacing their second year rivals so far.

Reigning Formula BMW UK champion Ericsson has been encouraged by his form so far, but isn't expecting success to come easily during the season.

He told autosport.com: "I did quite a bit of testing before New Year and I knew from [Fortec Motorsport teammate] Seb [Hohenthal]'s data that I was on the pace, so it isn't a shock to be up there now. It's gone really well so far.

"But I know it will be a hard season. Last year in BMW there were maybe five drivers fighting for wins, but here there will be 10, or maybe more. But I'm really looking forward to it. I'll just do the best I can and see how far we can go."

Hartley's Carlin Motorsport teammates Oliver Turvey and Jaime Alguersuari finished the Oulton test third and fourth ahead of Max Chilton, with Nick Tandy the top Mygale runner in sixth.
