Electric Watts

Briefly looking back to Snetterton, I was pleased with achieving two fifth places and a sixth which now shows the consistency we have in the car, along with ultimate pace (I set third fastest race lap in race one)

Lola, Promatecme and myself have worked so hard since Round One at Donington at the start of the year until now with very limited funding and testing, and our on-going development since then has further enhanced our position towards the front of the grid using a methodical and sensible approach.

The car is at a stage now where we are trying to find those last couple of tenths rather than big chunks of time, but of course as we all know, the last tenth or two is always the hardest! But we are more motivated than ever to win so were going to dig even deeper to succeed in one of the world's hardest championships.

So, Castle Combe this weekend... A circuit that's generally been a lucky one for me and certainly brings back a few memories, like Formula First in 1998 - on the old circuit without any chicanes - mega fast, all about getting a good tow, and not leading on the penultimate lap. Played two - won two.

In the 2002 Michelin Porsche Cup, I was kindly invited to race in the guest car for Porsche Cars GB on the revised circuit which included two chicanes. I qualified second - 0.079 off pole, got into the lead on lap three then fell off with four laps remaining whilst in second!

Last year was a bit mixed too in British F3 with Hitech Racing. Qualified on pole position for both, led the first race comfortably, fell asleep at the wheel and spun off... Race two I won with fastest race lap, my maiden win in the category.

So overall the score is: Castle Combe two - Danny Watts three!

I expect Combe to similar to Snetterton in that the lap times will be very close, considering the lap is 60 seconds and a tenth making three or four places difference to the grid position. The other variable is that we get just 45 minutes testing on Saturday morning then it is straight into two qualifying sessions so track time and circuit knowledge will be very important - but good training for F1.

As a team, if we can be on the ball from the word go then I am sure we can at the very least go home with a couple of podiums - hopefully the top step, so keep your fingers crossed for the sole black Lola-Dome!
