Donington 2: Austin takes first win

After an aborted first start, Austin got away cleanly at the second time of asking, although he was pressured by the Carlin duo of van der Merwe and Jamie Green heading into the first corner. The F3 returnee kept his cool to hold them off into the first corner, as the Carlin duo made contact with each other behind him, although both escaped without damage.

Austin then controlled the pace of the race. Although van der Merwe was never more than a second behind, he was never able to get fully on terms with Austin.

As the leading duo pulled away, Danny Watts (Hitech) jumped into third, but soon found his third position under threat from Green and Michael Keohane (Carlin). It was Keohane who eventually lost out in the scrap, shedding his front wing when he ran into the back of Green, allowing Watts through for third. He pitted for a replacement, but finished last.

Behind that group, Ronnie Bremer (Carlin) finished fifth, heading Nelson Piquet Jr (Piquet Sports), Will Davison (Menu) and Richard Antinucci (Promatecme).

Ernesto Viso (P1 Motorsport) took a comfortable Scholarship class win, coming home ninth overall. Karun Chandhok (T-sport) finished second, ahead of Justin Sherwood (Performance Racing). Points leader Steven Kane lost ground with a clutch problem at the start, and then found himself stuck behind Sherwood for most of the race, before spinning on the final lap. He recovered to come home fourth.
