Davies could miss Snetterton due to lack of cash
British Formula 3 championship leader Matt Davies may not make it to the second round of the series at Snetterton next week due to financial difficulties
Davies only finalised a deal to drive for the Avanti team on the Friday before the opening double-header round at Silverstone last weekend. The 24-year-old beat all the pre-season favourites to notch up a pole position for the second race and went on to take a lights-to-flag victory.
Despite his impressive form however, Davies has yet to secure the finances to complete the season and is in danger of missing rounds three and four next week.
"Now I've won a race and I'm leading the championship I'll be shocked if some people don't get revved up [and provide some backing]," said Davies. "[Avanti backer] Sandy Watson and [team boss] Nigel Clyde have been pretty good to me.
"I'm hoping to get a sponsor in early May, but I do need to find some money to be sure of my future. I've got 80 percent of the money for Snetterton and I should be there, but if I don't get the rest I can't expect them to subsidise me."
This is only the second season in British F3 for the Avanti team which was formed in May last year. Davies' win last weekend was the first for the Silverstone-based outfit and the team says there is more performance still to come. The Avanti Dallaras are powered by last year's Opel-Speiss engine as the RC Motorsport team has exclusive use of the 2001-spec unit.
Davies was partnered by FIA Sportscar Championship driver Martin O'Connell at Silverstone, after the British F3 veteran was called in to fill the seat at the last minute. O'Connell is expected to be replaced by Yugoslav Milos Pavlovic at Snetterton and for the remainder of the season.
