Davidson doubtful after shunt

A final decision about whether Anthony Davidson will be able to participate in this weekend's Macau Grand Prix will be taken on Friday morning after he was taken to hospital following a high-speed accident during qualifying on Thursday

The British American Racing test driver had just put in the fifth quickest time of the day when he lost control of his Carlin Motorsport car at the Matsuya bend. He spun and hit the barriers backwards and his unsighted car was then hit at low speed by Tiago Monteiro.

Although Davidson was able to climb out of the car himself he complained of a sore neck and was taken to hospital for precautionary checks. It was decided last night (Macau time) that he would remain in hospital overnight for a final analysis of the X-rays and in case his neck worsens.

Davidson's accident came at the end of a dramatic qualifying session for the Briton. In the opening minutes of the restarted session, he had hit local driver Lei Kit Meng up the back and was launched into the air. He was able to make it back to the pits, however, for a change of nose.
