Carlin signs Brazilian
Brazilian Formula 3 star Danilo Dirani will take on compatriot Nelson Angelo Piquet in the British F3 championship next year. Dirani has signed to drive at Carlin Motorsport, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine
The 20-year-old began as a karting protégé of Ayrton Senna and steamrollered to this year's South American F3 championship. Dirani had lost out to Piquet in the 2002 championship before Piquet moved to Britain this season.
"This will be a good Brazilian match," said team principal Trevor Carlin. "Danilo's got the ability, but he's coming in a year behind Piquet."
There's one seat left at Carlin (who have also signed Alvaro Parente and Clivio Piccione), and the team hopes to get Adam Carroll into its fourth car.
"We're trying to put a deal together," said Carlin. "Money is the main stumbling block."
South African Alan van der Merwe won the title with the squad this year, but he'll be moving on in 2004. He has not yet announced definitive plans.
