Button dominant at Pembrey
Jenson Button dominated the second race of today's Autosport British Formula 3 Championship double-header to take his second win of the season
The 19-year-old from Somerset kept rookie rival Matt Davies at arm's length to make up for missing out on victory earlier on the day because of a disputed jump-start penalty.
Button's Promatecme UK Dallara-Renault was this time adjudged to have made a kosher start.
Front-row partner Kristian Kolby, his Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mugen Honda fitted with a new clutch, was beaten away from the line by team mate Davies.
Button gradually pulled away, despite a frightening moment exiting the super fast Honda Curve on the first lap, when he put a wheel on the grass and got sideways.
His lead was eroded when the safety car emerged after the second Promatecme Dallara of Aluizio Coelho crashed heavily into the tyre barrier at the entry to the pit lane.
The Brazilian escaped unhurt.
Button got the jump at the restart. Once again he got sideways at Honda, allowing Davies chance to make a quick challenge before once again pulling away.
With five laps to go the gap was over two seconds, and Button maintained the advantage to the end.
'I made an OK start and managed to keep the lead into the first corner,' he said. 'Getting onto the grass at Honda was a bit frightening. I was pointing towards the pit wall - a bit exciting.
'The circuit was really slippery, with a lot of oil down. I was worried every lap and just to keep the car on the circuit was difficult.'
Davies said, 'I thought I might have a chance after the safety car. I was a lot better under braking for the hairpin, but Jenson stopped in the middle of the corner to prevent me from passing.
'He drove intelligently when I put him under pressure.'
Kolby harried Davies throughout the race to back up his win this morning with another podium finish.
Fourth was title contender Marc Hynes, who came out of a disappointing weekend with a respectable finish in his Manor Motorsport Dallara-Mugen. 'The most frustrating weekend I've had since I last came to Wales,' he grimaced.
Michael Bentwood completed the best weekend of his racing career by pipping Tim Spouge to the finish in a race long chase for fifth.
Behind them, Narain Karthikeyan battled ahead of championship leader Luciano Burti at the restart, although the Brazilian was angered by the hard-driving Indian's tactics.
'We were only battling for seventh,' he exclaimed.
Thai Tor Sriachavanon and National Class winner Martin O'Connell completed the top 10.
Hynes's defeat of Burti means that the Englishman has narrowed back the points gap in the championship - just two points separate the duo going into the next round at Donington Park in three weeks' time.
