Asmer wins interrupted race one

Championship leader Marko Asmer had very little trouble converting pole into victory in the first British Formula Three race on Bucharest's new street track, as continual safety car interruptions left few laps for racing

The Hitech Racing driver's life was also made easier by the decision to start the race behind the pace car in the interests of safety.

Asmer established a comfortable lead over Alberto Valerio, Sebastian Hohenthal, Sam Bird and Niall Breen before Hohenthal spun trying to defend his position. He was collected by team-mate Greg Mansell and Ultimate Motorsport driver Michael Devaney, which resulted in the first safety car period.

After some minor confusion resulting from the safety car picking up the midfield rather than the leaders, the race resumed on lap 12. But immediately there was another accident, as Franky Cheng lost it under braking and took out Leo Mansell and Francesco Castellacci.

This meant another safety car, after which there was only time for two laps of racing. Asmer won easily from Valerio and Bird, who clinched his first F3 podium.

Michael Meadows defeated Sergio Perez in the National Class, after poleman Ali Jackson collided with Double R Championship Class team-mate Jonathan Kennard and was eliminated from the running.
