Asmer takes race one pole
New champion Marko Asmer came out on top of an entertaining first British F3 qualifying session at Rockingham on Saturday
The session got off to a slow, damp start as everyone emerged to explore on wet tyres. Two red flags followed in quick succession, with nobody able to even complete a full lap.
At the third time of asking the session got going for real and it wasn't long before everyone began to pit for dry tyres.
While the Hitech driver's pole was no surprise - although his margin of half a second over Atte Mustonen (Double R) was exceptional even by his standards - John Martin's third position for Alan Docking Racing qualifies as a major shock.
Mario Moraes' fourth place for Carlin Motorsport was also a big improvement on his usual form. T-Sport's Rodolfo Gonzalez was next up.
Recently-crowned National Class champ Sergio Perez (T-Sport) took the National Class pole, with his main challenger Franky Cheng away on A1GP duty.
