Reigning champion Jack Harvey hopes to return to British F3

Reigning British Formula 3 champion Jack Harvey hopes to return to the series this season in addition to his GP3 Series campaign

Harvey has ruled out a bid for a second successive title, but wants to add a couple of F3 race weekends to keep himself sharp during a couple of long breaks in the GP3 calendar.

This would most likely mean that he would aim to compete at the Silverstone opener on May 25/26 (which falls between GP3 rounds at Barcelona on May 11/12 and Valencia on June 15/16), and in the finale at the Nurburgring on September 21/22 (which is between GP3 events at Monza on September 7/8 and in Abu Dhabi on November 2/3).

Competing in at least one F3 event would also make him eligible to contest the category's blue-riband Macau Grand Prix in mid-November.

"I'd like to," Harvey told AUTOSPORT, "but I don't know how possible it would be.

"The GP3 calendar at times is really busy, but at other times we get nearly two months off, and it would make sense to try and get some racing during those months.

"I maintain a good relationship with Carlin [with which he won last year's British F3 crown] and moving away from them [to ART Grand Prix] has allowed me to appreciate them more.

"I want to be in a position to push hard to win the championship in GP3 and not lose some of that sharpness.

"I haven't spoken to anyone at the Racing Steps Foundation [which backs Harvey's career] yet, and obviously some things would have to fall into place to make it happen.

"F3 is one of the best cars I'll ever drive. It's mega. And Carlin have done a brilliant job over the winter - their car looks really hooked up.

"They feel they've made some improvements and it'd be good to give it a go, that's for sure!

"And when I look at Macau, there's unfinished business there..."

Harvey would not be the first British F3 champion to return to action in the series. Marko Asmer, the 2007 title winner, contested a round in '11, while '02 champion Robbie Kerr had one outing the following year.
