Alexander Sims secures F3 Euro Series outing at the Nurburgring
Alexander Sims will race for T-Sport at next weekend's Nurburgring F3 Euro Series round, marking his first appearance in the category this year
The 23-year-old Briton switched his focus from single-seaters to sportscars this year and has raced LMP2 machinery for Status alongside his commitments as a member of McLaren's GT programme.
But he has accepted an offer from T-Sport to race the Dallara-Nissan usually driven by Nick McBride in British F3, in the Euro Series event in order to make him eligible for the end-of-season Macau Grand Prix. Drivers must contest one FIA-rules F3 event during this season to satisfy the eligibility criteria.
"I've worked with T-Sport and [Alan] Skelly [Woodhead] in the past so I know they're a good team," said the 2008 McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner.
"I'm testing at Anglesey on Thursday and I think we've got the Hankooks [as used in the Euro Series] to use, so it will be good to get some experience on them.
"I've raced on the Nurburgring in the past too, so I know what I'm doing. If Macau then happens, then I'll at least have some knowledge of whether going there with an aim to win is mad or justifiable."
Sims will be partnered by T-Sport's British F3 National Class regular Spike Goddard, who will drive his regular Dallara-Mugen Honda F308.
