Carlos Sainz Jr dominates third race at Snetterton
Carlos Sainz Jr utterly dominated the final race of the British Formula 3 International Series weekend at Snetterton
On a wet but gradually drying track, Sainz got the jump on poleman Jack Harvey at the start and the Spaniard sped into the distance.
Felix Serralles also got a strong getaway from fourth on the grid and swooped around the outside of Harvey at Riches, the first turn, to take second. But with Sainz moving ever further out of title contention, Puerto Rican Serralles elected to play safe and consolidate his position to earn crucial points in his championship battle with Harvey.
Harvey got fastest lap on the final lap of the race to score an extra point, enabling him to leave Norfolk with an advantage of four over Serralles.
Even so, he was nearly 20 seconds behind Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen team-mate Sainz at the finish.
"Already in the green-flag lap I got quite a reasonable start, so I copied that and it worked perfectly," said Sainz. "I had a really good first couple of laps. I can't really think about the championship - I just need to win more races and have some luck now."
Serralles remains Harvey's closest challenger in the title race in his Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes, as the third main contender - Carlin driver Jazeman Jaafar - took a distant fifth behind the Fortec machine of Alex Lynn.
Jaafar came under pressure from Hannes van Asseldonk until a quick spin by the Dutchman, who nevertheless did not lose any positions.
Van Asseldonk's moment allowed reversed-grid winner Harry Tincknell to get close, but he fell away to take seventh ahead of battling Brazilians Pipo Derani and Pietro Fantin.
Adderly Fong completed a National Class hat-trick in his CF Racing Dallara, a sensational start from the Chinese racer lifting him up the overall order, although he gradually dropped behind the A-class racers he had passed away from the line.
