Wurz Waiting for McLaren Decision

McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz has said he is waiting for the team's boss Ron Dennis to make some decisions on his drivers before he can sort out his own future.

McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz has said he is waiting for the team's boss Ron Dennis to make some decisions on his drivers before he can sort out his own future.

Austrian Wurz said he is already in negotiations about his future but he cannot confirm anything until McLaren are ready to name their driver line-up for 2002.

"The current situation is that I am the third driver for McLaren," said Wurz. "I enjoy the work, but my aim is to race and the situation for next year is I am waiting for some decisions to be made in the McLaren team and thereafter I am going to decide what to do.

"I am pokering at the moment, maybe very high, because I have turned some options down. It's a poker game, and sometimes you have to wait for something which is worth waiting for. I hope sooner rather than later, but you never know what is going on now, but I should not wait much longer than two or three weeks."

David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen are expected to remain as race drivers for McLaren, while the team have also been linked with a move for Sauber driver Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen is rumoured to be wanted by McLaren as a test-driver for next season before possibly being promoted to race driver. Wurz, however, would not mind staying at McLaren as a tester for at least another season.

"My number one choice would be to race for a decent team, but I think McLaren is one of the best cockpits you can reach at the moment," he added. "After two years of testing I would say something different, but I think it is no problem testing for two years."
