Wurz left hoping for more

Alex Wurz admitted he was hoping for more after missing out on the top ten in qualifying for the European Grand Prix

The Austrian driver will start from 12th position, right behind Williams teammate Nico Rosberg, in what was his second best qualifying performance of the season.

Wurz, yet to make it into the final shootout this year, had started 11th in Bahrain.

The Williams driver said he was expecting to be in the top eight today, but was surprised to see his car had no more potential.

"Just acceptable. Not great," Wurz told autosport.com of his qualifying showing. "I would have hoped for something like P8. I thought that there would be more in the car, but then in Q2 there wasn't any more. And I'm surprised by that, because the whole weekend before, it was quite good.

"But when the grip level increased for the last qualifying session, with more rubber coming down, suddenly the car got more and more oversteering, and I couldn't extract the lap time any more. It was similar problems for my teammate.

"Neither of us made any mistakes; we were both within a few hundredths, a few thousandths. So it was acceptable, but I wanted more."

He added: "We have a little bit of a problem here with the braking stability into the corners. That's why we have a bit of oversteer, and then mid-corner, it tends too much to understeer.

"And that's a normal, common problem in a Formula One car, but usually as the rubber goes down and the grip level increases, that problem gets smaller.

"But for us it got worse, and that wasn't ideal. It was a bit unexpected, but that's why I am a bit disappointed."
