Wilson's future to be decided soon

Jaguar announced on Monday that the rookie Briton will replace Antonio Pizzonia for the last five races of the season and although he is a favourite to continue in the seat other drivers are still being considered for the drive.

"His chances are equal or better than most, but if you're sitting in the seat then you're always in a good position," said Tony Purnell, CEO of Ford's Premier Performance Division.

Purnell said that Wilson will be on a steep learning curve in Germany having never driven on the new circuit, with no experience of the R4 and no running on Michelin tyres. "We do not have any expectations for Justin for the next race," he said. "David Pitchforth [Jaguar Racing MD] has come up the analogy that the German GP will be like his [Wilson's] winter testing and the race in Hungary will be like the Australian GP.

"I think it will be an awful lot to ask to expect something in Germany."

Purnell would not be drawn on exactly when the decision will be made but Wilson is expected to have at the most three races to make the right inpression. "I think the decision will be made before the end of the season to be honest," said Purnell. "It's a complicated equation but that is F1. Nothing is simple. When it comes to drivers. Things are very complicated."
