Wilson Unfazed by Lack of Testing

Briton Justin Wilson has jetted out to his Minardi team's Italian factory for what could be his only day of running before his Grand Prix debut in Australia next month.

Briton Justin Wilson has jetted out to his Minardi team's Italian factory for what could be his only day of running before his Grand Prix debut in Australia next month.

Wilson, who sold shares in his future to fund his £2m drive, will join teammate Jos Verstappen on Wednesday to test the new machine in a private session at Ferrari's Fiorano test track.

But the single-day test is currently the only planned test session for Minardi before the cars are shipped to Australia next Thursday because of delays in the car's construction.

"I can't wait to test the new car - but it would be nice to get a bit more time in it," said Wilson today. "I wouldn't say I am happy with the situation but unless we have millions of dollars we can't change it. That's the way it goes."

Verstappen, who used to be teammate to World Champion Michael Schumacher at Benetton, will be first to drive the machine, but team spokesman Graham Jones said: "We plan to give both drivers the chance to try out the new car."

That could leave Wilson with just a few laps of experience in his new car before he arrives in Melbourne - but the team are desperately trying to organise another last-minute test.

"The freight goes out to Australia next Thursday and that gives us a window to test," said Jones. "But we can only do that if there is any space at the tracks close to our factory."
