Wilson to Use New Support to Protect Shoulder

Briton Justin Wilson will have a special carbon fibre support inserted into his cockpit to prevent him from suffering a repeat of the shoulder injury which brought his Malaysian Grand Prix to a premature end.

Briton Justin Wilson will have a special carbon fibre support inserted into his cockpit to prevent him from suffering a repeat of the shoulder injury which brought his Malaysian Grand Prix to a premature end.

Minardi driver Wilson exited the Kuala Lumpur race after suffering temporary paralysis of his right arm and was taken to hospital after problems with his HANS device left him in excruciating pain.

He will begin Friday's testing session for the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos with a new double seatbelt system to prevent a repeat and has also revealed he will have a carbon fibre support in his cockpit.

"We've made some extra bits for the side of the cockpit," Wilson said. "It is a case of putting something in the car to protect me. It is carbon fibre and it will protect me if I slide about.

"We are going to do a few longer runs in testing on Friday morning and hopefully it will be okay. It will be nice to get a long run in and see how the shoulder is."

Wilson admitted the anti-clockwise nature of the undulating Interlagos track could pose a problem to his shoulder, and accepted Friday morning's testing will determine whether he can cope.

"I hope not but we'll see when we get out there," he said when asked if the circuit could aggravate the injury again. "The neck is going to take quite a bit of strain, but until I get out there I've got no idea what it will be like."
