Wilson Finishes Mugello Test on Top - Final Day

Formula 3000 champion Justin Wilson finished on top of the timesheets on the final day of testing at the Mugello circuit, where the Honda-powered Jordan and BAR teams concluded their preparations for the Japanese Grand Prix next week.

Formula 3000 champion Justin Wilson finished on top of the timesheets on the final day of testing at the Mugello circuit, where the Honda-powered Jordan and BAR teams concluded their preparations for the Japanese Grand Prix next week.

Wilson, who on Thursday was the slowest driver on track, recovered well on Friday to finish more than seven tenths of a second ahead on Briton Darren Manning at the wheel of the first BAR, who continued testing new components that could be included in their car at the Suzuka race.

"It's gone very well," said Wilson. "I'm happy with my experience this week - the team has been very helpful and patient in helping me to familiarise myself with the circuit, as it's not the easiest track to learn. I've enjoyed both my test sessions with Jordan and we'll have to wait and see what happens in the future."

Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan got his second test with the Jordan team, the Formula Nippon driver setting the third quickest time of the session. Karthikeyan, who completed the most number of laps today with 78, first drove for Jordan at Silverstone last month after becoming the first Indian to drive a Formula One car in June with Jaguar.

British Formula Three championship runner-up Anthony Davidson set the slowest time of the day with the second BAR, as the young Brit continued his acclimatisation to Formula One.

"My first test was in Mugello so to be back here again with the team has been great," said Davidson. "Testing for three days for the first time has been a steep learning curve; it's been tough both physically and mentally but I feel that I've managed to adapt quite quickly.

"Also, Darren's been giving me some good advice so all in all I feel like I've learned a lot."

Today's times:
