Briton Justin Wilson will take part in the pre-Brazilian Grand Prix test session in Interlagos next Friday after his Minardi team pronounced the new Head and Neck Safety device design an initial success.
Wilson, who was taken to hospital with temporary paralysis of the arm after the Malaysian Grand Prix eight days ago, travelled to the team's factory last weekend to test the new design.
"The new design worked well and Justin has made a quick recovery," team spokesman Graham Jones said today. "He is young and fit and he has bounced back so there are no concerns from a medical side.
"He has been cleared by his own medical people but usually the FIA medical officer, Sid Watkins, will wander down at some point and have a quiet little chat just to make sure he is okay to race."
Wilson, who has so far only managed to do a static test with the new device, will test it in action for the first time on Friday and could still decide it is not comfortable to race. Jones admitted the team "have a gameplan should it become necessary to bring in a replacement" but insisted that despite the tough conditions in Brazil such a move is unlikely to happen.
If it does, however, they are expected not to use official test driver Matteo Bobbi, who does not have a Superlicense, but instead bring in one of their rival's current third drivers. Toyota driver Ricardo Zonta is understood to be a possibility as are Ferrari test drivers Luca Badoer or Felipe Massa.
