Williams pair cautiously optimistic for 400th GP

Ralf Schumacher and Alex Zanardi are hoping they can change Williams' fortunes for the better as they prepare for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix

The race marks the 400th Grand Prix of the Williams team, and after some glorious years, the team is struggling to make any impression on McLaren and Ferrari this year.

The team's aim is to hold on to its fifth spot in the Constructors' Championship, and Schumacher is hopeful after his disappointing weekend in Monaco.

'I am optimistic for Sunday because I know that our cars can produce a good performance in the race.

'I like the Barcelona circuit, as it has a good variety of corners, both fast and slow. I am confident with the track and I hope that we can produce a good race there and score some point.'

Zanardi has had a poor season so far, and in Monaco he managed his first race finish of the year, but he was pleased he had managed to test at the Catalunya circuit before the race.

'This is a circuit that we should know better than any other because we tested here all through the winter,' he said.

'We're not expecting anything in particular as we've had difficult times recently. It's nice for us to have tested just one week before the race.

'It was a useful test and I hope that we have been able to improve our performance compared to other people for this event.'
