Williams confident tyre issues are solved

Williams are confident that they have got to the bottom of the tyre overheating problems that hampered their performance in the French Grand Prix

The Grove-based outfit suffered from the inside shoulder of their rear Bridgestones overheating dramatically during the race at Magny-Cours.

The problems left Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg struggling for pace, despite having shown improved speed over recent races in qualifying.

Following some evaluation work at Jerez in Spain this week, however, Williams third driver Alexander Wurz believes that there will be no repeat in the future.

"We have done some work on the tyre issues," Wurz told autosport.com. "I have not had to change anything on my side, it is the team that have made some changes.

"We didn't have the same problem recurring, so I think we are okay."

It is understood that the tyre issue was caused simply by Williams not getting their set-up with the new family of Bridgestone compounds as spot on as Ferrari, who went on to win the race.

The situation was not helped by the two Williams drivers needing to push hard in the opening stages of the race - thereby not being able to look after their tyres during the early phase as Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa had been able to.
