Wednesday Testing Round-Up

While Ferrari worked at Fiorano for the second day, other Formula One teams began on Wednesday their scheduled testing at different tracks in their preparation for next week’s Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.

With test driver Luca Badoer at the wheel, Ferrari continued with development work of testing new mechanical components, which started yesterday, also trying some new wet tyres in an artificially watered track.

Badoer completed 141 laps with a best time of 1:00.451 in the dry, and 1.09.552 in the wet. Championship leader Michael Schumacher will join the team tomorrow.

Meanwhile, at Silverstone, BAR, Jordan and Jaguar saw their first day of testing hampered by rain during the morning, so they could only work during the afternoon.

Jordan's Jarno Trulli, using 2001 specification parts for reliability testing, was fastest with a best lap of 1:28:34 in a damp track, ahead of Eddie Irvine's Jaguar, 1:28.48.

BAR's test drivers Darren Mannning and Patrick Lemarie were also present at Silverstone, setting fastest times of 1:29.01 and 1:30.85 respectively.

At a much sunnier Estoril circuit, Jenson Button tested for the Williams team, completing a total of 77 laps, with a best time of 1:20.89. The young Brit worked on some new tyre compounds and aerodynamic set-up

Testing will continue tomorrow at both at Estoril and Silverstone.
