Webber: Zero tolerance for track invaders
Jaguar Racing ace Mark Webber wants to see a hard-line taken with any future track invaders, wherever it may happen in the world
Following the incident at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, a man is currently in custody over the incident pending psychiatric reports. Webber says that he feels a strong line must be taken to deter any future would-be track trespassers.
"The implications of something like that do not bear thinking about - it's not the same thing as someone running on at Wimbledon or at Lords," said Webber. "What frightened me is that he looked really confident bearing in mind where he was and the fact that we weren't missing him by very much. There has to be zero tolerance with that kind of thing."
Webber also suggested that, because such individuals tend to use television as a platform for their actions, there is probably mileage in TV companies immediately panning away from any such incident.
"That tends to happen more at home," the Aussie said. "In the cricket, for example, you'll just see a group of players wetting themselves laughing and you know that there's either some guy or some Sheila running around without any clothes on..."
